SIPL, Laser, IPL Treatments. Melbourne Permanent Hair Removal, Laser Skin Clinic. Facial Attraction
What is SIPL, Laser, IPL | Laser and Skin Clinic, Facial Attraction. Melbourne Victoria.

SIPL stands for “Super Intense Pulsed Light”. SIPL is an advanced and clinically proven approach to permanent hair reduction and skin rejuvenation. SIPL is a remarkably less painful, yet more powerful and effective, long-term alternative to other IPL’s and Lasers.

"Once you have experienced Starlux, you’ll never go back to painful laser,
ice, gels, cold air blowers, or basic IPL’s again".

SIPL offers increased power, a longer "pulse-width" of the light beam, and integrated cooling of the surface of the skin. This effective cooling allows maximum destructive power with less pain and discomfort as with other older IPL and Laser machines. This ensures greater protection against skin burns and hypopigmentation, which is quite often seen with some inferior IPL machines and Lasers.

In addition, facial attraction laser & skin have different systems that can be utilised for different skin types and hair colours, thus allowing us to customise the treatment programme specific to your individual needs. We have specialised probes to even treat Asian, European, Indian, African and darker skin types. The special patented hand pieces combined with our expertise allow us to perform these treatments with exceptional safety & effectiveness. We can confidently say that the number of treatments required with the STARLUX system is considerably less than with other systems.

When comparing Laser/IPL providers, it is important to make appropriate comparisons. The recent articles in the press regarding the importation of cheap IPL machines has highlighted the safety issues with non-approved devices. The TGA has expressed concern that many of these inferior IPL machines are used in salons and yet do not have the required TGA approval for safe and effective operation. In addition, there is a great concern about the lack of training some operators have in using these devices. The Starlux SIPL has been voted as the worlds number one. Facial Attraction Laser & Skin Clinic uses this system throughout their 10 Melbourne Locations and with our competitive pricing packages, there is no need to settle for less.

“ With all the TV hype recently about different IPL and laser systems, cheap imports that do not work, or worse, cause major adverse reactions, it is important to find a reputable provider. Here are some other questions you may be considering:”

What is the difference between IPL  v Laser?   “I heard Laser is better than IPL” or “I heard IPL is better than Laser”

In short, laser is mono-chromatic, that is, one specific wavelength.   IPL is poly-chromatic, which uses multiple wavelengths.  However, not all IPL’s and lasers are the same, these are just generic terms – a bit like saying hatch-backs and sedans.  You need to know what make and model; within that make, how good the engine is, how it has been maintained, a bit like when you’re comparing cars.

Essentially a photon is a photon.   The light (photons) that is emitted at a particular wavelength is the same whether it is laser or IPL.   What will vary is:

  • The energy level – how powerful the system is.
  • The pulse width - which impacts depth of penetration and safety
  • The wavelength - If the wavelength is not ideal for a particular treatment, it doesn’t matter if you have the best laser or IPL, it will not deliver the best result.
  • Temperature and simultaneous cooling.
  • How the Energy is delivered – in a smooth continuous wave, or in spikes.

Because the SIPL’s  Facial Attraction use are so adaptable, the Clinician can choose different wavelengths,  pulse widths, energy levels and temperature. Other IPLs don’t have these functions because they  are preset - ours are not preset.  Therefore,  we can specifically target and effectively treat a particular problem.  More importantly if we feel we cannot effectively treat your concern, we will inform you and refer you to another provider.

Once we have the right wavelength, pulse with and energy levels the other thing to consider is the safety.  Much like how many air bags in a car.  Since our energy is delivered in a smooth pulse rather than multi spiking (one long smooth pulse as opposed to lots of spiking pulses) it reduces risks.  Having  integrated cooling  allows our system to deliver more energy safely whilst simultaneously  cooling the top layer of the skin to 5 degrees.  What that means is usually less treatments are required and in a safer and more comfortable way.  In addition to that the use of sapphire crystal is safer than glass, as glass tends to heat up (thus pitting), whereas sapphire conducts similar to metal, allowing the integrated cooling to work at an optimum level.  Inversely when other methods are used such as ice-packing, cold air blowers, chillers or cryo-spray that may pre-cool the target too much, reducing the effectiveness of the treatment, thus needing more treatments.

Even if one has the ultimate high tech laser or IPL, if the machine has not been calibrated, serviced regularly and hasn’t had received software upgrades, or the hand pieces are not regularly UPDATED, THEY YOU CANNOT BE ASSURED THAT THE ENERGY LEVELS emitted are at the correct levels, which means that you cannot be assured of receiving the most effective treatment.

If a clinic has the best “wiz bang” machine but has a clinician who is not experienced and who does not understand the interaction of the variables and cannot optimise these variables, it defeats the purpose and does not matter what equipment they have or what they are operating.  On the flip side, if the clinician is inexperience, they can under treat and you will see no result or over treat, which will increase the risks of adverse reactions.   All these factors will obviously impact the price you are paying.  Given that our business addresses all of these factors, we believe you are getting the most cost effective service on the market.

During our thorough consultation, we factor in any other risks via your medical history so we can adjust settings accordingly.   Finally, our systems can safely treat all skin colours, as multiple wavelengths are available for our use.  Some Lasers such as Ruby, Alexandrite ND-Yag and Diodes will have their limitations, due to their wavelengths or pulse-widths being fixed and unadaptable.

What machines do Facial Attraction use?

Facial Attraction utilises medical grade SIPL’s that are TGA and FDA approved.  The two machines we choose to use are the Palomar Starlux (not  Esti-lux, multi-lux, medi-lux or super-lux, because they are not adaptable, only preset) or the Sciton BBL.  Clinical or white papers, comparative studies can be found on our website www.facialattraction.com.au or www.palmed.com or www.sciton.com

How much is a treatment?

When you are comparing prices, you need to factor the above variables.  You also need to compare how many treatments you will need and the effectiveness of each treatment being performed.  If you require more treatments at a reduced price, in the long run it will end up costing you more money and time. You will also need to factor in the expertise of the Clinician – as in most things in life – you get what you pay for.
